Situated along the coast of Bay of Bengal, Puri is one of the most significant religious centers of India in the eastern state of Odisha. The land of Lord Jagannath, the city is popularly referred to as Jagannath Puri. The world famous temple of Jagannath Ji or Lord Krishna was built in the 12th century by King Chodaganga Deva. The temple has become synonymous with the city of Puri. Every year pilgrims come to the Jagannath temple in large numbers to pay homage to Lord Jagannath. However, it is during the Puri Rath Yatra or the Chariot festival that it becomes when you will see the city full with pilgrims.
